keeping up
04/27/06
It's nearing the end of April and I don't think it gets too much busier than it is right now. The last couple of days have been chaotic. Off farm work commitments have kept me out of the field and frankly left me with a feeling of being out of touch. there are so many pressing projects -

Here on the farm, the beginning of our growing season starts in late February. We are most busy in the greenhouse starting plants that are destined to be planted on the farm as soon as conditions permit. We also plant extras for retail sales. Starts have turned out to be a critical part of our ea -

Strawberries are in! They will be in full production by June. All we have to worry about now is how we will harvest them. I'm hoping for some u-pick evenings this summer. How fun will that be? A little bbq. a little dip in the pond. Who's making stawberry shortcake?

Lots going on on the farm this week. Today we will be installing our strawberries. Should go fairly smooth. We will have four 110ft beds with a total of about 1400 plants. I know that sounds like a lot but it should just take a half day or so.
We need to do a bunch of thinning and cu -

Coming Home!
04/13/06
Yea! I can't wait to be home.
We helped my sister put in a small garden yestderday. It was 90 degrees here and it's only mid April! Yikes! The seeds must just jump out of the ground. Sure is different than Orcas.
I'm starting to feel a little bit like Joh -

patience is a virtue
04/11/06
Patience is a hard lesson to learn. For me, being away from the farm for any amount of time can be an agonizing experience. Especially now in the spring when there is so much going on. (when is there not) Spring time is always so exciting though. It's when our thoughts, insights and reflecti -
Oklahoma is OK

Made it! Arrived Sunday PM without incident. It is flat here and sterile. Mom looks pretty good for being 89. I already miss home and my daily routine. We did have some fun last night fishing with my nephew and niece. We were catfishing. No fish, maybe theres one on the line now, as I le -
Drop And Delegate
04/06/06
My to do list is so long I just have to laugh when I look at it. It's funny, it all sounds so simple to add something to the list like "sow beets" But in order to sow the beets, the bed where they are going first has to be tilled, amended with organic fertizer and compost and in our -

The push is on
04/04/06
Hello friends, I hope this finds you well. The push is on here. It's planting time! We have been busy getting seeds in the ground and tending to our greenhouse starts. Mostly we have been putting in salad greens and our early root crops such as carrots, beets, turnips and radishes. This -
Times change
04/02/06
Something about the time change always makes me feel our season is here in ernest. It's not so much the actual change as it is just the feel of the seaon. We normally start potting up seedlings and begin getting calls from gardners about needing their starts. ironically, those calls started c -
